Started a New Amp Project. This one is for my father.

It's been a while since I've last posted. I've been busy running a Vacuum Tube Business selling on eBay for now. There's a link to my eBay store off my website http://www.vintageamptubes.com/.

This past Christmas my stepmother and I told my father that we were getting him a guitar but that he had to pick it out. He ended up picking out a Yamaha Acoustic/Electric cutback guitar. I told him I would build him an amp for his new guitar. Since then I've been pondering on what to build him.
I knew that it didn't need to be very loud as that would most likely cause some marital and neighborhood tensions. I also wanted to showcase my evolving woodworking skills so my searched ended at two websites.

The first website was called Electric Wood Inc. They make some of the most beautiful wood combo amps that I've seen.

For the amp itself I found this website http://www.ax84.com/. The basic version of this tube amp is about 5 watts which will be perfect. The site also has additional ways to add more power and features to the basic setup. That way my father can add all the bells and whistles that he wants.

Today I finally cleared out my work area so I could start building this amp. Thanks to the AX84 website I was able to print out a turret board template. Here I taped the template to the turret board material for drilling.

I pick up most of my amp parts from Doug Hoffman over at http://www.hoffmanamps.com/. Doug has the best customer service I've seen. Since Doug is located just a few hours away, I get almost instant gratification of having parts delivered in a day or two.

A drill press really makes the job a lot easier. The little turrets need to be straight up, if you tried to drill it by hand the turrets would all be leaning every which way and it just wouldn't look good. Remember it's all about the looks, because some day someone actually might look at the guts of the amp.

Here is the Turret Board with all of the Turrets Installed. I covered how these Turrets are installed in a previous amp build, just click on this link to Turret Installation.
